Meeting of the MC of the "Danube" TC Programme

The Executive Director of the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" Maria Tzankova took part in the second meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the "Danube" Transnational Cooperation Programme 2014-2020, which was held between March 21-23, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The programme provides a platform for joint activities and exchange between national, regional, local authorities and NGOs in the Danube macro-region.

The Monitoring Committee consists of representatives of all 14 countries included in the territorial scope of the "Danube" Programme. The Committee as the main decision-making body is designed to monitor and control the implementation of the programme objectives and results. During the second Committee meeting the progress on the implementation of the programme was presented. The Programme operates through five priority axes: Innovative and socially responsible Danube region; Environment and culture responsible Danube region; Better connected and energy responsible Danube region; Well-governed Danube region and Technical Assistance. Among the main tasks of the Committee was the adoption of an action plan in conjunction with the announcement of the second phase of the first call for proposals. The deadline for participation in the first phase was the beginning of November 2015. Meanwhile, it became clear that the number of applications for interest amounts to 576.

The Executive Director of the Association of Danube Municipalities “Danube” Ms. Tzankova stressed that local authorities in Bulgaria recognize the programme as a vital opportunity for the implementation of key regional projects and ideas. She added that the new instrument has the potential to contribute to achieving the objectives of the Danube Strategy.
