Conference "Danube Limes as a Sustainable Brand Destination"
On November 9, 2022, the International Conference "Danube Limes as a Sustainable Brand Destination" was held, which was also the last within the international project Living Danube Limes, financed under the Interreg Danube Transnational Program.
Its main objective was to discuss basic policies for preservation and protection of cultural heritage, methods and possibilities for creating the Danube Limes destination and to promote the common candidacy of the Lower Danube Limes for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List (as a joint effort by the the Balkan countries Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia and Romania).
The conference hall in Sofia brought together inspiring international speakers from Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, etc., who presented to the attention of all present 4 thematic sections, including the history of the Danube Limes, archaeological research, conservation and protection measures, the borders of the Roman Empire, the respective cultural heritage and necessary digital transformation, pontetial routes for cultural tourism, etc.
The organizers of the event were the Bulgarian partners of the Living Danube Limes project: the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube", the National Tourism Cluster "Bulgarian Guide", the Center for heritage interpretation.
