MoU between ADRM and Sicilian Municipalities

The Chairman of the Management Board of the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" (ADRM) and Mayor of Ruse Municipality Mr. Plamen Stoilov signed a Memorandum of understanding and cooperation (MoU) with the Association of Sicilian Municipalities. The President of the Association of Sicilian Municipalities and Mayor of Palermo Prof. Leoluka Orlando hosted the ceremony, which was held in the local city hall. The Bulgarian delegation included mayors and chairmen of municipal councils from member states of ADRM "Danube" and the Executive Director of the Association Ms. Maria Tzankova. The event was held in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Italian Republic H.E .Marin Raykov, the honorary Consul of Bulgaria for the Region of Sicily – Mr. Agostino Randatso, the head of the Office of Trade and Economic Affairs in Rome - Dr. Nadezhda Ivanova, business representatives from Bulgaria and Sicilia.

By signing the MoU the two parties commit themselves to establish a dynamic and effective international cooperation between the associations and their members. The main objectives of the partnership are to provide opportunities for exchange of ideas, information, skills and techniques to provide a basis for cooperation and partnership in projects of mutual interest and to establish a framework for cooperation of local authorities, businesses and other associations.

Within the official event the Chairman of the Board Mr. Stoilov outlined the thematic areas in which ADRM actively works. Prof. Orlando, in turn, presented a brief history of the created in 1981 regional association, stressing that it currently represents about 92% of the municipalities on the island of Sicily. The participants had the opportunity to exchange concrete ideas for cooperation in the field of good governance, culture, education and socio-economic inclusion.
