Decarbonising Smart Cities

On 9 March 2021 a webinar Climate needs action part 2: Decarbonising Smart Cities: pathways towards net zero port and airport cities took place. The event was organized by the UK Science and Innovation network, UK Embassy Sofia and UK Embassy Bucharest. The Executive Director of ADRM "Danube" Maria Tzankova took part in the online event. The event brought together experts from the UK, Bulgaria and Romania - researchers, planners and policy makers; to discuss the challenges they face in transforming cities into productive, safe and low emission places to live. It also showcased innovations and opportunities in East Europe.

This is part of a series of events, the aim of which is to develop a network of experts in the Eastern Balkans region to work with UK partners in jointly identifying and implementing the most efficient solutions to climate change adaptation and mitigation. One outcome is to identify the best case-studies from Romania and Bulgaria which may turn into a joint side event at COP26 in Glasgow, including partners from the UK.

Maria Tzankova presentation THE PROJECT DELIVERY GROUP MODEL IN DECARBONIZATION OF INLAND WATERWAY AND CITY TRANSPORT AND IN DRIVING REGIONAL GREEN AGENDA focused on the project for deployment of hydrogen production infrastructure, a FC ship and FC buses in Ruse as a part of a broader strategyinvolving the Danube region in Bulgaria for its engagement for contribution to Bulgaria’s climate targets.
