DaWetRest Community of Practice
The DaWetRest project kindly invites all stakeholders of wetland restoration in the Danube River Basin to join the first session of the Danube-Black Sea Lighthouse Community of Practice taking place online on 11th of October 2024between 10:30 – 12:00 CET.
What to expect? Communities of Practice connects people from different backgrounds who share a common vision though regular meetings and formats of exchange. Based on a shared dedication to the deployment and upscaling of wetland restoration in the Danube River Basin, the Danube-Black Sea Lighthouse Community of Practice will become a platform to:
- generate ideas for future wetland restoration initiatives;
- promote cooperation among a diverse range of stakeholders;
- co-create solutions and build capacity;
- serve as a link between the local communities and European strategies, goals, and opportunities.
The initial session will introduce you to the DaWetRest project, the community’s concept, the European Mission Ocean and Waters and initiate a conversation on challenges and bottlenecks of wetland restoration and its upscaling.
Register here [LINK] to receive all invitations to the bi-monthly sessions.
We are looking forward to connecting and working with you on facilitating the upscaling of wetland restoration. In case of suggestions or questions, please contact general@dawetrest.eu.

About the community
Hosted by the innovation action DaWetRest (Danube Wetlands and flood plains Restoration through systemic, community engaged and sustainable innovative actions), this Community of Practice is a platform for research and academia, local and regional governance, civil society and environmental organisations, as well as businesses to collaborate on upscaling the restoration of wetlands, flood plains, coastal wetlands and salt marshes in the Danube River Basin to protect and restore biodiversity. It has a focus on the DaWetRest innovations and the DEMO regions of the project: Middle Danube (MD) covering Danube-Deava wetlands at the border of Croatia, Serbia and Hungary; Lower Danube (LD) covering part of the Danube between Bulgaria and Romania and Danube Delta (DD) in Romania, Ukraine and Moldova.
It aims to bring together important stakeholders to identify challenges in wetland restoration and its upscaling, share knowledge and good practices, co-create solutions and build capacity, promote cooperation among a diverse range of stakeholders, generate ideas for future initiatives, and serve as a link between the local communities and European strategies, goals and opportunities.
The Community gathers bi-monthly for 1.5-hour virtual learning and co-creation sessions. The outcomes and learnings will be shared on the DaWetRest website. A LinkedIn group facilitates dialogue and sharing resources between community members.
Why should you join?
The Danube-Black Sea Community of Practice targets any actors working on the conservation and restoration of wetlands, flood plains, coastal wetlands and salt marshes, or intends to do so. The membership is open to local and regional authorities, regulatory bodies on water, ecology and nature protection, national park administrations, projects and initiatives on river and wetland restoration, local businesses, environmental consultants, environmental NGOs, as well as the local communities and important actors from the DEMO regions.
Members of the Danube-Black Sea Lighthouse Community of Practice will be invited to participate in bi-monthly sessions including workshops, expert talks, discussions, joint brainstorming, introduction to (funding) opportunities, and access to a network of like-minded stakeholders. Members of the Community may also share news of their own activities regarding wetland restoration, gain visibility among the other members, and receive advice on their wetland restoration challenges by the other community members.
