On 31 October 2025, the first National Expert Meeting in Bulgaria took place at the Rousse Regional Museum of History. It is part of the Roman Legacy project, funded under the Interreg Danube Region Programme.

The event was organized by the Bulgarian project partners – Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" (ADRM), Municipality of Belene, and BATTI - Bulgarian Association for Transfer of Technology and Innovation – in partnership with the Rousse Regional Museum of History, acting as an Associated Strategic Partner.

The meeting gathered representatives of eight Danube municipalities, experts in cultural heritage, tourism, and regional development, and stakeholders from the tourism sector. Participants discussed the project’s goals, activities, and the concept of a transnational cultural route connecting key and lesser-known Roman sites across the region.

This event marks the start of a national expert process to identify and promote Bulgarian Roman heritage sites within the project framework. Future consultations will further shape the Bulgarian section of the transnational route.

The ultimate goal of the project is to support the UNESCO nomination of the Eastern segment of the Roman Danube Limes and to achieve Council of Europe certification, ensuring international recognition and protection of this shared cultural heritage.

The Roman Legacy Project brings together 54 organizations from 11 European countries, working to preserve and share the common Roman heritage of the Danube Region.
