The project is funded under the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria 2014-2020 Program, co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state budgets of Romania and Bulgaria.
The main objective of the project is to significantly improve the process of planning, development and coordination of the cross-border transport system for better connection to the TEN-T network in the cross-border region Romania-Bulgaria. The project envisages conducting expert preliminary study and development of a strategic document for the optimization of the transport system by using intermodal transport links in the cross-border region.
The total cost of the project is EUR 1 428 765,73. It has a duration of 24 months and must be completed in the beginning of 2018. Project partners are the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" (Bulgaria) and Foundation for Environmental Initiative and Sustainable Development (Craiova, Romania).
The achievement of the objectives set by the project should contribute to a well-planned and sustainable development of transport infrastructure and organization of transport networks in relation to the four types of passenger and freight transport: road, water, air and rail. The end result of the project is to optimize the transport connectivity of the entire cross-border region as well as to improve the joint actions of the Romanian and Bulgarian institutions in the formation of transport policies and investment decision making.
